Marty Brown
Sept. 24, 1955 – March 31, 2020

Our brother in Christ, Marty Brown, joined The Church Triumphant in the early morning of March 31, 2020 at age 65. Marty was born on September 24,1955 in Phoenix, AZ. He died due to complications from pneumonia, renal disease, and COVID-19.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tracey Brown, and other family members in Idaho, Arizona and Northern Nevada. Marty joined Love MCC in Las Vegas in 1989 and met Tracey in 1990. They were married, September 15, 1990.

Marty was instrumental in assisting with other trans leaders establishing trans-related support groups in the Las Vegas area in the 1990’s, along with working with other local LGBTQ groups after he retired in 2010 from plumbing within the local government. Due to transphobia in the area, he could not be his authentic self until he had retired. Marty was involved in the Love MCC church choir and praise teams starting in 2018.

At the time of his death, MCC Moderator, Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston shared the news with the Council of Elders, Governing Board and Staff praying: “Gracious God, we lift our hearts to you. We pray for Marty, for his wife and family, for Love MCC and their pastor. We trust in you to send us all that we need in this time. May Tracey be supported with love and generosity.”

Responding to the news, Rev. Wanda Floyd wrote: “Marty was a wonderful man of God with a gentle heart and spirit. I will miss him dearly. He was very kind and loving with Collis and I when I was Interim Pastor in Vegas. We often had many meals together. He even served as an office volunteer for a period of time. He will be missed.”
