Rev. Gina Lynn (Kangas) Chapman
September 9, 1948 – August 6, 2018

REV. GINA LYNN (KANGAS) CHAPMAN returned to God on Thursday, August 6, 2018 at 7:35 pm in Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, Whittier, C, surrounded by loved ones.

Born September 9, 1948 in Los Angeles CA, she was the daughter of Helen and Emeril Merle Kangas. She attended the Inglewood Lutheran Church and Lutheran High School, graduating in 1966.

Gina took early retirement from Pacific Telephone Company to spend more time with her ministry, having attended and been ordained in Metropolitan Community Church Fellowship’s Samaritan Seminary, Los Angeles

Rev. Chapman began her ministry to AIDS patients in 1981, when she was a deacon at the MCC in Los Angeles. She was known for hugging dying people that others would refuse to touch and was a community activist in a time before there was even a name for the disease.

In 2006, she received the honored Community Partnership Award from Whittier Rio Hondo AIDS Project.

Pastor Gina has been the beloved minister of Good Samaritan Metropolitan Community Church in Whittier, CA from 1991 until her passing and will always be in our hearts. Her love and guidance will be so missed by each of her congregants.
