Rev. Margaret Hawk
Jan. 10,1961 – March 25, 2020
Rev. Margaret Hawk retired from active ministry in MCC in 2017 after 25 years as Pastor of New Creation MCC, Columbus, Ohio, USA
Some of you may be familiar with the inspiring, introspective musings on her blog “Theo-blog-ically Speaking.”
Rev. Dr. Kharma Amos said, “I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Rev. Margaret Hawk. She was the long-time faithful pastor of New Creation MCC in Columbus, Ohio. Their network celebrated her service with a special award. Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Margaret graduated from Bechtel High School, Bowling Green State University, and the Methodist Theological School. After spending five years as the supervisor of Cokesbury (a United Methodist bookstore), she moved on to her true passion and love – being the Pastor for New Creation MCC in Columbus, OH. Over the course of 25 years as Pastor, Margaret had many accomplishments but she was most proud of officiating numerous Holy Unions and later several weddings, leading the congregation in establishing their own building, and aiding New Creation MCC to become a monthly Mid-Ohio food bank distribution site. Most importantly though, she counseled, prayed, held, loved, encouraged, listened, and lifted up each person that came across her path. Her immense kindness, compassion, and empathy for people guided her life and work.
Rev. David Zier recalls Margaret saying that “her favorite moments being pastor at New Creation were watching people have new experiences with God… when that light bulb goes on, God’s presence is felt, a connection is made emotionally, physically, spiritually and the next step is taken.”
Our prayers go out to New Creation MCC and all the family and friends of Rev. Margaret. We know you will continue her legacy of love.
